The Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes in partnership with Trent University is pleased to introduce the Nonprofit Management Essentials (NME) micro-credential program, a timely initiative designed to equip nonprofit professionals with critical management skills. This program is being launched in response to the evolving needs of the nonprofit sector, aiming to provide professionals with the tools necessary to navigate and lead in an increasingly complex environment.

Today, the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes is pleased to announce $302,000 in funding to support seven community services in Kawartha Lakes through the Government of Canada’s Community Services Recovery Fund.
The Community Services Recovery Fund is a one-time investment of $400 million by the Government of Canada to help community service organizations including charities, non-profits, Indigenous governing bodies adapt, modernize and be better equipped to improve the efficacy, accessibility and sustainability of the community services that they provide through the pandemic recovery and beyond.
Three local philanthropists, Chris
Handley, Mike Perry, and Phong Tan have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to
ensuring access to quality education by establishing awards and scholarships for local
elementary and high school students pursuing a post secondary education. These generous
gifts have been made possible through their Family Legacy Funds, established in collaboration
with the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes.

The Mishkodeh Centre for Indigenous Knowledge invites the community to gather with us on Saturday June 17 at 11 am outside at 50 Canal Street in Bobcaygeon (by the FLO Charging Station) for ‘Strawberries and the Mishkodeh’.
Omemee Community Leaders have come together to establish the area’s first community advised fund to help mobilize private or corporate donations, attract legacy gifts or endowments for granting to initiatives and charities specific to the Omemee area. All donations, which are eligible for tax receipting, will have a direct and lasting impact in Omemee.
The Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes announces the final act of the Bobcaygeon & Area COVID-19 Relief Fund (BACRF). Launched in March 2020 in response to the pandemic’s impact on Bobcaygeon, this significant fund raised much needed financial and in-kind support for local healthcare workers, Bobcaygeon’s three senior care homes, their residents and staff, as well as local families and individuals during a difficult and unpredictable time.
The Canopy Project Kawartha Lakes (CPKL) is launching its 2023 Campaign in commemoration of Earth Day, raising $30,000 to create and rejuvenate the urban canopy at schools and public spaces in Kawartha Lakes. The tree planting program will start at St. Thomas Aquinas and I.E. Weldon Secondary Schools in Lindsay, followed by Dr. George Hall Public School in Little Britain. This is an environmental initiative aimed to empower youth to care for the future of our green space by planting trees and protecting the environment within Kawartha Lakes for generations to come.
From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, non-profit organizations, Indigenous Governing Bodies and registered charities have shown stamina and creativity in their response to the many challenging needs of their communities. With the assistance from the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes, the Community Services Recovery Fund responds to what is needed right here, right now to adapt to the long-term impacts of the pandemic.
The Board of Directors of Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes is pleased to announce the appointment of Laurie Dillon-Schalk as Executive Director, starting January 10, 2023. “The Board is very excited to welcome Laurie to our Community Foundation.” said Mike Bellamy, President of the Board of the Community Foundation. “Laurie brings a wealth of experience from both the private & non-profit sectors that will be of tremendous benefit to the Community Foundation, here in Kawartha Lakes.”
The Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, Karina Gould has announced that Community Foundations of Canada alongside Canadian Red Cross, and United Way Centraide Canada have been selected to distribute funding to help a broad and diverse range of charities, nonprofits and Indigenous Governing Bodies adapt and modernize, so they can support pandemic recovery in communities across Canada.

A Place Called Home in Lindsay received a significant donation of $7,500 from the Wright Family Fund that is administered by the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes. Since its establishment, the Wright Family Fund has supported The Grove Theatre in Fenelon Falls, the Summit Wellness Centre in Coboconk, the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes Opportunities Fund among others with generous gifts aimed at improving the communities of Kawartha Lakes.
Now poised for continued and sustainable growth, the Foundation Board is seeking to hire an Executive Director who is both creative and passionate. As a keen team player, this new leader will develop strong partnerships of purpose by connecting people, projects and philanthropy. This opportunity will offer not only a tremendous career but will present an amazing experience in community philanthropy.
Young local youth will have more opportunities to develop their skills and confidence for leadership thanks to the new Rural Youth Leadership Fund being hosted by the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes.
The Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes and the Kawartha Conservation Foundation have partnered to help promote important projects across the watershed as well as introduce new audiences to the great work each organization provides.
We are poised to recruit two digital interns to work with us until March 31, 2022. The Digital Skills for Youth Internship Program offered by Pinnguaq Association is designed to assist under 30 university/college graduates to gain valuable working experience while training in all things digital.
With great pride and sense of honour, the past President and Co-Founder of the Community Foundation of Kawartha, Mike Perry has established the Doug & Mary Perry Higher Education Fund with the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes. In memory of his loving parents, Mike has launched this Fund intended to provide financial support and encouragement to graduates from the Fenelon Falls Secondary School, interested in a career in teaching.
Just over a hundred years ago, lumber baron Mossom Boyd's son, W.T.C. Boyd was a significant figure in Bobcaygeon in his own right. With many achievements under his belt, none was more enduring than the dry stone wall built around Edgewood, his family estate. That unique construction, using not a single trowel of mortar, ensured it's still around today. You'll see the 400-foot stretch of it on the Case Manor side of Canal Street

Three Life-Sized Bronze Canoe Paddle Figures To Be Installed At The Fenelon Falls Rain Garden, Paying Homage To Its History As A Portage And Gathering Area
KAWARTHA LAKES – The Fenelon Falls Rain Garden will soon feature three life-sized bronze canoe paddle figures participating in a portage.
Since launch in November 2019, the Foundation has made a significant impact in the local community. More than 535 donors contributed over $785,000 to eleven established funds, aimed to support community need, community projects and self-directed charitable purposes.
The importance of giving back to the community is something Glen Wright learned from his parents as a young boy. Glen’s story brings his life full circle from his start in Bethany, to his family cottage on Four Mile Lake, to building a successful career, and then returning to the lake where it all began in Kawartha Lakes.
The Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes is pleased to announce that it has generated $1 million in local charitable investment activity in its first official year of operation.
The Bobcaygeon and Area COVID-19 Relief Fund and its dedicated Advisors continue to support the needs of people affected by the many repercussions of the pandemic. With the support and guidance of the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes, this group of concerned citizens has redirected $116,607.45 in the last eight months, helping 512 members of the community through individual and family support.
The Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes has dispersed $57,280 from the second round of funding by through the Emergency Community Support Fund, designed to support local charities responding to COVID-19 in partnership with Community Foundations of Canada, United Way Centraide Canada and the Canadian Red Cross.
Launched on May 19, 2020, the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes invested $136,400 in Round 1 of the ECSF towards local Kawartha Lakes charities and qualified donees supporting populations experiencing heightened vulnerability during the COVID-19 Crisis. This fund was intended to support local charities responding to COVID-19 in partnership with Community Foundations of Canada, United Way Centraide Canada and the Canadian Red Cross. The local effort in Kawartha Lakes, including the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes, aimed to support our vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
The Sculpture Project: Two public artworks will be installed at the Rain Garden in Fenelon Falls, the first project initiated by the Fenelon Arts Committee (FAC). Established in 2018, the FAC is a volunteer committee that identifies opportunities for artists, strategizes on arts initiatives, and works to increase public access and engagement with art in Fenelon Falls.
A stunning outdoor amphitheatre – the first ever in Fenelon Falls – will be home to The Grove Theatre, an exciting new summer festival of live performances. Created under the auspices of the Kawartha Works Community Co-operative (KWCC), with construction funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and additional support from members of the local community, The Grove Theatre has been conceived to engage and inspire both visitors and local residents. The annual festival will bring new vitality not only to Fenelon Falls itself but to the whole region of Kawartha Lakes.
