A Place Called Home receives $7,500 from Wright Family Fund

A Place Called Home in Lindsay received a significant donation of $7,500 from the Wright Family Fund that is administered by the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes.

Since its establishment, the Wright Family Fund has supported The Grove Theatre in Fenelon Falls, the Summit Wellness Centre in Coboconk, the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes Opportunities Fund among others with generous gifts aimed at improving the communities of Kawartha Lakes.

The importance of giving back to your home community is something Glen Wright learned from his parents. Glen’s father grew up in Janetville eventually settling in Bethany after the war, where he became the barber and volunteer firefighter, and his mother taught at a two-room school. A family cottage was built on Four Mile Lake near Burnt River in the 1950s. Reconnecting to the fond memories of life at the cottage, Glen bought his own family cottage on the same lake 30 years later.

In the last three years, the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes has built a strong basis for philanthropy in Kawartha Lakes. Propelled into high gear in March 2020, the Bobcaygeon and Area COVID-19 Relief Fund was created with a local advisory of concerned citizens, funds were raised and disbursed to support the devastating needs that arose in Bobcaygeon and Area. Since then, 10 new funds have been established, including the Wright Family Fund. Each fund has unique goals and intentions, all seeking to give back to their communities through a multitude of shared objectives within the Foundation pillars of community, environment, arts and culture, education and health.

This donation will be used to provide shelter and around the clock support to residents of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County clients experiencing homelessness. The donation will also support A Place Called Home’s outreach program, which provides ongoing assistance to past shelter clients as well as those in the community at risk of homelessness.
