Announcing the Emergency Response and Recovery Fund
In times of crisis, communities are defined not by what happens to them—but by how they respond. At the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes (CFKL), we believe our greatest strength lies in our ability to care for one another.
We invite your organization to join us as a Founding Contributor to our new Emergency Response and Recovery Fund—created in response to growing calls for coordinated local support. This fund will help residents across Kawartha Lakes respond, recover, and rebuild from disasters both large and small.
Whether it’s an ice storm, wildfire, flood, or other emergency, the need for rapid and compassionate support continues to grow. The fund addresses urgent needs like food, shelter and medical supplies—while also supporting long-term recovery, all in collaboration with frontline organizations.
What makes this fund essential is its flexibility. While direct donations to service providers like Kawartha Food Source or Community Care are always valuable, a dedicated fund allows the community to pivot quickly as needs evolve. Emergencies unfold in stages—and by pooling local generosity into one coordinated fund, we strengthen our ability to adapt and respond where the need is greatest.
CFKL has a strong history of managing emergency relief and recovery grants and is known for its trusted relationships with the municipality (as an official partner of the municipality), ward councillors, and grassroots volunteers. As a public foundation committed to improving quality of life and belonging in Kawartha Lakes, we bring experience, transparency, and heart to every response.
As a founding contributor, you’ll be recognized as a leader in this vital initiative—joining organizations like Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation (KLCFDC) and the Glen Orloe Wright Fund, who have already stepped forward to say: “We’re ready to help.”
I would be happy to discuss how your organization can support this important work. Together, we can ensure that no one in Kawartha Lakes faces crisis alone.
