Kawartha Gallery Honours Late Director Jean Pollock with Donation to Bobcaygeon and Area COVID-19 Relief Fund

The Kawartha Art Gallery has made a donation to the Bobcaygeon and Area COVID-19 Relief Fund to support the urgent needs of the community in honour of its late Board Member, Bobcaygeon resident Jean Pollock, who passed away last Saturday fighting the Coronavirus.
“We lost a light in our community last week,” stated Gallery President, Doug Currie. “It was not only Jean’s passion for the arts, but her love for her community of Bobcaygeon that motivates this donation in her memory.”
A long-time volunteer with the Kawartha Art Gallery, Jean Pollock had sat on the Kawartha Art Gallery’s Board of Directors as Recording Secretary since 2012.
“Jean was spunky, stylish and passionate. Quick with a smile, a laugh and a wink,” added Mr. Currie. “She will be sorely missed.”
As a career, Jean was a flight attendant with Trans-Canada Airlines, now Air Canada. Later in life, as a graduate of the Commercial Arts Course at Danforth Technical School in Toronto, Jean pursued her creative side, becoming a talented artist and passionate advocator for the arts. Jean’s passion was first and foremost her family. She is survived by her husband Ted Pollock and their daughters Pam Smith and Tracey Cainer.
The Kawartha Art Gallery’s donation to the fund of $2,500 was made possible by a gracious estate gift to the gallery from well-known Bobcaygeon artist and community leader: Lois Smith Brennan last year. The Board of the Gallery honours both Lois Smith Brennan and Jean P. Pollock with this contribution.
The Bobcaygeon and Area COVID-19 Relief Fund is being managed by the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes. “Jean was clearly a talented and loved woman in our community,” noted foundation President Mike Perry. “We are heart-broken for the loss of so many to this virus here in our area and are honoured to be able to use the foundation to help people and continue local legacies.” Located in the Lindsay, for over 40 years the Kawartha Art Gallery has been dedicated to fostering awareness, enhancement and enjoyment of the Arts through its collections, exhibitions, and programming for the benefit of the citizens of the City of Kawartha Lakes.
